Anger · Forgiveness · Lessons · Trust

good and mad… a lesson…

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Ephesians 4:26 NIV

Yes… I got good and mad…

And yes… I let the sun go down… because it was already setting when I got good… and… mad…

Really… the angriest I’ve been in a long time…

The worst part is… in the grand scheme of things it’s a trivial… trifling… matter…

But… I got mad…

Went to bed mad…

And yes… woke up… mad…

There was injustice involved… but mostly inconvenience…

And yes… I am mad with myself… with being so mad…

I ask Him upon rising… after thinking thoughts of just how to gain some sort of restitution in the situation… and He says… Forgive…

Ugh…!

I consider what it will cost to forgive…

To forgive… I must take the blame… for something I didn’t do…

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2Corinthians 5:21 ESV

To forgive… may require my paying a penalty… unjustly…

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…

Galatians 3:13 ESV

To forgive… requires my silence… endure without complaint… against the one forgiven…

“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. …”

Acts 8:32 ESV

And I see Him using the trivial… to reveal my own grace-less nature… and to teach me an object lesson… of what He endured…

Considering all He’s done to forgive me… the good and mad… begins to quiet…

Trusting… the one forgiven… needs the grace…

Trusting… I need the lesson in forgiving…

Trusting… He will make all things right in the end…

For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2Corinthians 4:17-18 ESV
