Good News · Wonder

good news…!

Good news… I got to share some with a second-grader in Bible class on Wednesday…

We were talking about the good Samaritan… how Jesus used the story to teach us who our neighbor is… and how to be a good neighbor…

“…Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” [The lawyer] said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Luke 10:36-37 ESV

I told them how Jesus was our good Neighbor… seeing us spiritually beaten up… left for dead by our enemy… the one who comes only to kill… steal… destroy…

I shared with them how Jesus had mercy on us… died on the cross… paid the price for our salvation… our healing… a price we could never pay ourselves…

Jesus is the ultimate Good Neighbor… and we’re called to do likewise…

Then the question comes… a somber voice… a sober face…

How did Jesus die the second time…?

Confused for a moment… I ask… What do you mean…?

He repeats his very serious question…

Then I get to deliver some Good News…

Jesus didn’t die again… He’s still alive…!

Oh… I wish you could’ve seen the look on his face…

Eyes wide… mouth fallen open… true wonder… at the news of His still being alive…

The world… entrenched in death… tries to squash the truth of life… it just doesn’t seem like it could really be true…

Oh… but… it… is…

I pray He will refresh the wonder of His resurrected life in each of us today… the wonder of the Good News… and the life everlasting…!

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

Hebrews 10:12-17 ESV

Amen…!
