Enemy · Storms · Trust · Walk

trust…

Do I trust Him…? when I know I can’t…

“Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.

Matthew 14:27-29 ESV

I find myself way out of the boat… metaphorically speaking… so far out I’m not sure where the boat is… even if I wanted to return…

But the water is rough… and the wind blows out of the mouth of the enemy… tempestuous… a violent agitation… You will never get it done… you are sure to sink… might as well pack it in now…

But when [Peter] saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:30-31 ESV

I’m tempted… like Peter… to look to the wind… sink under its taunts… give in to fear… but I want to learn the lesson… not walk the same way as Peter…

Instead… I want to find strength in his story of failure… to look not to the wind but to Jesus…

To bear the storm of doubt… and continue to trust… even though the agitated spirit continues blowing its threats…

After Peter’s faith sank… he cried out to the Lord for help… but it was too late…

And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

Matthew 14:32 ESV

Jesus rescued him… the water walking was done… and once Peter was safely back in the boat… the wind stopped its howling…

As long as the howling doubts continue… there is water walking to be done…

I will keep my eyes on Him… and give the enemy no notice…

He is faithful… to keep me walking His way… atop the waves… resisting the wind… when I absolutely… know… I… can’t…

Lord Jesus… I choose to keep my eyes on You…
