Conviction · Doubt · Encouragement · Humbled

humbled…

Both yesterday and today… I’ve found myself humbled…

First through encouragement… I suppose encouragement shouldn’t humble… but it does…

In two separate places… words of encouragement emboldened my faith in what He’s called me to do…

The renewed boldness… reminds me I can do nothing apart from Him… but I also see (in hindsight)… how I’ve failed to trust He’s at work through me… failed to be excited about the call and the journey… especially when it’s difficult…

He also humbled me by reminding me His way is hard… it is hard for a reason… there is purpose in the narrow way… filled with straits… tight places… requiring perseverance and pressing on… to get through…

And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

Deuteronomy 8:2 ESV

This world we walk in is a wilderness… and He leads us in ways… hard ways… to test our faith… reveal what’s in our hearts…

And what did He reveal in my heart these last couple of days…? in my particular wilderness wanderings…?

DOUBT…

Merriam-Webster’s defines doubt as… to lack confidence in… distrust… which in biblical terms would be called unbelief

With the doubt in my heart revealed… I’m humbled… convicted… at my lack of faith… I’ve been walking by what I see… how I understand things… and not by His promises…

I’m grateful for both humblings… encouragement and conviction…

They both fuel faith… one a blessing and affirmation of a call I’ve been pursuing for a while… the other a blessing of freedom in the truth He’s revealed…

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

Psalm 27:8-9 ESV

Have you been humbled lately…? What did it speak to your heart…?
